Congratulations on your First City Pre-Approval

At First City Credit Union, we’re proud to provide our members with the relationship-first services they deserve, which is part of our mission as a credit union. Although we try to make all our services as straightforward as possible, we understand there may be additional questions regarding the Pre-Approved Letter Check you received in the mail. Below is a list of frequently asked questions that may help to resolve any questions you have.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is the First City Credit Union Pre-Approved Letter Check?

A: Our Letter Check is a message of personal loan pre-approval from First City Credit Union. The Letter Check and accompanying disclosure provides you the pre-approved loan amount, term, and estimated payments for a personal loan that can be used for many purposes.

Q: Why did I receive a Letter Check from First City Credit Union?

First City Credit Union determined eligibility for our Letter Check using a set of credit scores, debt repayment history, and many other factors.

Q: How do I utilize my Letter Check?

Simply endorse and deposit your Check with First City or any other banking institution. The deposit will likely be subject to a Funds Hold policy, which could vary from a few to several days depending on the institution’s Policy.

Q: What if I didn’t receive a Letter Check?

There are several reasons you may not have received a Letter Check, including credit qualifying reasons, a previous request to opt out of promotional offers, or even a simple bad address on file. If you would like to apply for a personal loan, you may apply online using our Instant Loan Application process, by calling, or visiting a First City branch.

Q: Can my Letter Check be denied after I am pre-approved?

Your Letter Check is fully negotiable, therefore once your deposit has cleared the funds are yours to use at your discretion.

Q: What can I use the loan funds for?

Once your deposit clears, your First City Credit Union Letter Check funds can be used to purchase nearly any item on your wish list, from decorations and gifts to travel plans and unexpected bills. The choice is up to you!

Q: How long will the Letter Check be valid?

A: Your Letter Check expiration date is shown in the body of the letter, as well as on the Check itself. The sooner you deposit your check, the sooner you will be able to access the funds. Please note that cashing or depositing the loan check means you agree to the terms and conditions of the personal loan as detailed on the reverse side of the letter.

Q: When will my first payment be due?

Your first payment will be due 30 days from the date you deposit your Check.
